It is with great sadness that Guildford City Football Club have to announce that Ray Drinkwater, one of the great City goalkeepers has passed away. Ray played over 100 games for City in the mid 1950's when the club was a power in the Southern League. Ray moved on to Portsmouth for the 1956/57 season making 8 senior appearances. Ray then moved to Queens Park Rangers, made his debut for them in March 1958, and went on to play 199 times for the west Londoners.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Jimmy Langley has passed away at the age of 78. I only saw him play against us, for QPR in the FA Cup 2nd Round in 1965-66 and later for Hillingdon Borough. I had the pleasure of spending an evening in his company with "Tich" Evenden, the Joseph's Road groundsman/handyman one evening at the City club in the mid 80s. It was just the most wonderful evening full of reminiscing about Jim's time at Guildford.

Jim joined the City while in the Army in 1948 and turned professional the following season. He played 155 games for the City before being transferred to Leeds United in 1952. He didn't settle in the North, only playing 9 games for them, but was transferred to Brighton at the end of the season . He played 166 games for Brighton before moving to Fulham in February 1957 for a fee of £12,000. While at Fulham he made 323 appearances and gained 3 full England caps against Scotland, Portugal and Yugoslavia. He transferred to QPR at the start of the 1965-66 season and in 2 years there he made 87 appearances and picked up a League Cup winners medal when they beat West Brom at Wembley. After his time at Loftus Road Jim continued playing in the Southern League with Hillingdon Borough and ended up as manager and later was the steward in their Social Club.

As I am sure most of you know one of the roads in the estate built on the old ground was named Langley Close in his honour.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of lifelong Guildford City fan Dennis Fisher. Dennis was a great friend of football in Guildford and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Dennis's funeral took place at Guildford Crematorium on 11th July.
Tribute to Dennis from the City Secretary
I came to know Dennis over the past few seasons as a regular spectator at our home matches at Spectrum and at some of our away games. We always had a chat about how the team was doing, who was playing, and what the result was likely to be!
Dennis was a dedicated Guildford City supporter and turned up in all weathers, even when it was obvious to see that he was not at all well. However even in adversity he was always extremely polite, a quiet person with a good sense of humour, who was very knowledgeable about the game of football.
When we were struggling to upgrade the facilities at Spectrum, Dennis made a financial contribution without question, and asked for no recognition.
Dennis was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by all at Guildford City Football Club.
