Statement from Shahid Azeem, Chairman of Guildford City Football Club
Monday 7 July 2008
I have to report what was for me a very sad conversation. Our management team, and I would say good friends, Scott and Lloyd have decided that the facilities I have been able to secure for our use next year are just not compatible with the level of football they so dearly want to play. They have indicated that they will not be a part of our future challenge, as things stand. I completely understand what they are saying. I have tried my absolute hardest to change things but have quite simply been unable to offer any real hope of any improvement in facilities soon enough to make them feel any better about their future.

I could go into great detail about their individual contributions. I hope they will forgive me if I treat them as a team when I briefly talk about them here because that is how I see them – the exemplary team. They have been absolutely excellent. They took over when we were at our lowest ebb and have consistently been honest, realistic and very hard-working. At a time when the morals of football is being questioned at all levels, they have been towering pillars of moral strength and consistency, commanding absolute respect from players and administrators alike as they have been the architects of our great success last year.

I wish them all the best fortune in the world in their next great challenge and hope that we will be able to work together again in the not too distant future. I hugely appreciate what they have done and feel highly responsible for the situation that they see as a mismatch between what we want to be and where we are today. I will keep working to rectify this situation so we can be worthy of their expertise in the future.
